Lennox 51M37 Thermostat Manual

The Lennox Merit ® Series 5/2 day programmable electronic thermostat 51M37 has a big, easy-to-read display and offers outstanding temperature management. To alert the user when the equipment needs maintenance, it has programmable filter change reminders, equipment maintenance reminders, and system check indicators.

The 51M37 is appropriate for heat pump applications that require a gas or electric auxiliary heat source and a 3-stage heat/ 2-stage cool system. An optional external temperature sensor offers dual-fuel compatibility, balancing point operation, and auxiliary heat lockout.

Both the backup heat source and the heat pump are utilized to supply heat in the typical heat mode. The backup heat source is turned on if the thermostat notices that the heat pump isn’t able to supply enough heat (which could happen in extremely cold weather).

When in emergency heat mode, the heat pump is disabled and only the backup heat source produces heat. Only when there is a need for heat is the backup heat source turned on.

Use the HEAT button to switch between the regular and emergency heat modes or to turn off heat modes altogether. Pressing the Heat button activates Heat mode when the thermostat is in the OFF or COOL modes.

It could be essential to “reset” the thermostat to its default setting in certain abnormal circumstances. Because such a RESET would erase all programming and settings, it should only be performed in exceptional circumstances where the thermostat doesn’t work as intended or as configured.

A power surge or other electrical disturbance may cause such an occurrence. The memory of the thermostat is kept for at least 24 hours after a power outage. This memory keeps track of the program information, the HOLD status, the programmed temperature setpoint, the heat/cool and fan mode settings, the filter reminder status, the maintenance reminder status, and the equipment protection timers. Program settings are lost and restored with default settings after a power outage of 24 hours.
