DISCLAIMER
Ariens maintains the right, without prior warning or obligation to the public, to revoke, modify, and add improvements to its products at any moment. At the time of printing, the descriptions and specifications in this manual were accurate.
This manual’s suggested equipment list could be optional. It’s possible that certain examples won’t apply to your unit.
Safety
Always remove clutches, turn off the engine, and wait until all motion has stopped before working on the snow thrower to prevent harm to your hands and feet. The most frequent way that snow thrower injuries occur is when hands come into contact with the moving impeller.
Never wipe the discharge chute with your hands. Keep your hands and feet away from the impeller and auger.
Safety Rules
Before starting assembly or operation, read, comprehend, and adhere to all safety precautions in the owner/operator manual. Instructions must be followed carefully to avoid personal harm and/or property damage.
Before assembling, maintaining, or servicing a spark plug, ALWAYS remove the key and/or wire.
Unintentional engine starting can result in fatalities or severe injuries.
Walk around the unit and the workspace to make sure you are aware of everything, including: the workspace, your unit, and all safety decals.
ALWAYS carefully inspect the overhead and side clearances prior to operation. ALWAYS be alert to oncoming vehicles when operating near curbs or roadways.
Keep people and children away. Keep minors away of the work area and in the supervision of an adult who is in charge. NEVER let kids operate the unit or play nearby.
Adults SHOULD NOT be allowed to operate a unit without sufficient training. Only competent adults may operate the device. Actual operation is a part of training.
Keep any toys, animals, and rubbish out of the work area. Objects thrown can hurt people. Look for weak areas on floors, ramps, or docks. Avoid working in rocky or uneven terrain. Be watchful for concealed dangers.
AVOID operating close to ditches, embankments, or drop-offs. If a wheel is over the edge of a cliff or ditch or if an edge cave in, the unit could suddenly topple over. Fog, snow, and other conditions that impair visibility can result in accidents. Only use the device when the lighting and visibility are favorable.
NEVER use the device while under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medicine.
NEVER let anyone whose coordination or awareness is compromised to operate this device.
DO NOT operate the machine unless you are properly dressed for the cold. Wear appropriate safety equipment, such as protective gloves and safety glasses with side shields. To increase footing on slick surfaces, use the right shoes. AVOID loose clothing, jewelry, and untied hair, which can get tangled in moving parts.
Protect your head, face, and eyes from anything the unit might throw. Put on the proper hearing protection. Don’t use sharp edges. Sharp edges have the ability to cut.
Fingers or hands can be severed by moving pieces. During operation, ALWAYS keep your hands and feet away from any rotating parts. Body parts can be severed by rotating parts.
DO NOT touch any parts of the equipment that may be hot from use. Before attempting to repair, modify, or service the parts, let them cool. Never aim your firing at people or anything that could get hurt or get damaged by flying items.
On gravel surfaces, exercise extreme caution. Keep an eye out for any traffic or concealed dangers. If the Scraper Blade makes contact with gravel, adjust the Skid Shoes. NEVER toss snow higher than is required.
Materials that are ignored can harm people and damage property. When using this machine, keep your distance from the discharge region at all times. Exhaust fumes from engines might result in harm or even death. NEVER run an engine in a closed space. Don’t forget to ventilate well.
Before leaving the operator’s position, ALWAYS disconnect the attachment, turn off the engine and unit, remove the key, and wait for the moving parts to stop. SERIOUS INJURIES CAN BE CAUSED BY ROTATING AUGER. NEVER TRIM OR CLEAN AN UNIT WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING.
Before using the machine, make sure to read, understand, and abide by all directions.
When starting units with electric starters, only use certified extension cords and receptacles. Electric starting cords SHOULD NOT be connected to any wiring that is not a three-wire grounded system.
NEVER clear snow until the engine and unit have had a chance to adapt to the outside temperature. DON’T try to operate or clear snow too quickly so as to overburden the machine’s capacity.
Turn curves carefully and at a slower pace. Only use reverse if it’s really required. ALWAYS take a step back. Always keep an eye on the ground and behind you when backing up. When moving from one work location to another, disengage the attachment drive.
Vibrations that are unusual are a sign of disaster. A foreign object can harm a unit if it is struck.
Stop the engine and the unit immediately. Remove the key after waiting for all motion to stop. Spark plug wire should be removed.
Before restarting, inspect the appliance and make any necessary repairs. Disengage clutch(es), stop unit and engine, remove key, and wait for moving parts to stop before cleaning, clearing clogs, doing any inspections, repairs, etc. Let heated components cool.
After clearing snow, turn on the device for a few minutes to avoid freezing the attachment. While not in use, disengage the attachment. Before starting the engine, release all clutches.
To securely navigate gravel or crushed rock terrain, adjust the skid shoes. Never go unattended near a running machine. TURN OFF THE ENGINE BEFORE LEAVING THE ROOM.
Never transport people. Regularly check the clutch and brake systems. As needed, adjust and provide service. When the control levers are withdrawn, the auger/impeller and drive wheels must instantly come to a complete stop.
AVOID operating on a steep incline. DO NOT remove snow from slope faces. On hills, proceed slowly and gradually at all times. AVOID abrupt changes in direction or speed. Avoid stops or shifts on hills by driving slowly. On a hill, do not begin or stop.
Unless absolutely necessary, DO NOT park your vehicle on a slope. Be sure to always block the wheels when parking on a hill. When transferring the unit on a truck or trailer, ALWAYS turn off the engine, remove the key, and close the fuel shutoff valve or empty the fuel.
When loading or unloading the device onto a trailer or truck, exercise additional caution. To transfer a car, secure the unit chassis. NEVER attach to potentially broken rods or links.
Transporting a machine with the engine running is NOT recommended. Keep ice and other objects away from the unit. Resolve any spills of oil or fuel. There is an internal combustion engine in this product.
DO NOT use the unit on or close to any unimproved, forested, or brush-covered terrain unless the exhaust system is fitted with a spark arrester that complies with all local, state, and federal regulations. If a spark arrester is utilized, the operator is responsible for keeping it functional.
Fuel vapors are explosive and very flammable. Handle carefully. NO flames, sparks, or smoking. Allowing the engine to cool is a MUST before service. NEVER add fuel to a tank that is hot from operation or operating an engine.
NEVER refuel or empty a fuel tank inside. Clean up any fuel spills before replacing the fuel cap firmly. Never use a plastic liner to fill containers on a truck or trailer bed, inside a car, or anywhere else. Before filling, always set the containers on the ground far from your car.
Gas-powered equipment should, whenever possible, be taken out of the truck or trailer and refueled on the ground. If this isn’t practicable, then you should replenish the machinery on a trailer using a portable container rather than a gasoline dispenser nozzle.
Immediately change into new clothes if fuel has been spilt on them. To prevent spills, properly remove the fuel before positioning the unit onto the housing. Secure the unit so that it won’t topple over while being maintained.
Always keep guards, panels, and protecting structures in their proper locations and attached securely. NEVER alter or take away safety features. NEITHER over-speed the engine nor alter the governor settings.
Exhaust fumes from engines might result in harm or even death. NEVER run an engine in a closed space.
Don’t forget to ventilate well. ALWAYS keep the equipment in a secure functioning state. A worn-out or damaged muffler could catch fire or explode.
Always keep the hardware securely tightened. Frequent shear bolt inspections. Keep up with or change the warning and instruction labels as needed. NEVER keep a unit with fuel in the fuel tank inside a structure with any type of ignition sources, such as a space heater, a hot water heater, or a dryer. Before keeping the engine in any containment, let it cool.
Fuel should be turned off, and the engine should cool completely before being stored or covered. Unit must be fully cleaned before extended storage. For proper storage, refer to the engine manual. Use only the accessories or attachments intended for your equipment.
